It feels like summer across much of the North Island today, particularly in the east and north.

In northern areas such as Auckland, Waikato, Northland and Bay of Plenty high humidity coupled with the heat is making it feel more like late December than mid November.

In the east hot winds and fairly sunny skies have seen temperatures surging towards the 30 degrees mark.

As of 1:30pm it was was 28 degrees in Napier, 26 in Gisborne and Hastings and 25 degrees in Paeroa.

A number of other regions are around 20 degrees or the low 20s from Northland to Taupo to Blenheim.

But Marlborough is where the heat stops.

In Christchurch this hour it’s 15 degrees but only 11 in Dunedin.

Queenstown and Gore are on just 10 while Invercargill is on 12.

On the West Coast light westerlies are blowing and it’s a mild 17 degrees.
