> From the WeatherWatch archives

It may have felt like winter this time last week but today it was anything but wintry as temperatures rose into the mid 20s across eastern New Zealand.

Both Napier and Kaikoura took the national high with 24 degrees on Sunday.

Christchurch, Hastings and Ashburton all hit 22 and Whangarei, Tauranga and Timaru made it to 21.

Auckland, Kaitaia, Nelson, Blenheim and Oamaru all reached 20.

Even the lower South Island was warmer with 13 in Invercargill and 19 in Alexandra.

Dunedin made it to 18 as did Wellington.
