> From the WeatherWatch archives

Spring is still with us which is why the southerly this week was a cold one – but the heat is returning this Thursday and Friday.

Daytime highs through Central Otago will be 27 degrees in the shade for Alexandra and Cromwell by Thursday. Some areas may even reach 30 degrees.

The heat extends through other inland parts of the South Island.

On Thursday parts of Northern Southland will be in the low to mid 20s, with highs of 25 degrees possible, maybe higher.

It’s a similar story through the Canterbury High Country with daytime highs in the mid 20s by Thursday.

Christchurch is also warming up each day this week. Today’s high is only around 13 degrees, then 16 on Wednesday, 18 or 19 on Thursday then the mid 20s possible for Friday and Saturday.

Marlborough has sunny and warm weather with highs in the mid 20s from Thursday to Saturday.

And the eastern North Island, currently saturated, will be pleased to hear sunny weather comes out on Thursday and daytime highs bounce back into the mid 20s. It will be made more noticeable by Wednesday’s cooler southerly, with Napier’s high only 15 degrees with more rain.

By Friday the eastern North Island will also be pushing into the late 20s and maybe 30 through northern Hawke’s Bay and inland parts of Gisborne region.
