Severe thunderstorms are affecting the Pukekohe, Southern Waikato and Wairarapa areas this evening but the main band south of Hamilton has caught the attention of WeatherWatch.co.nz forecasters.
As of 5:30pm the storm cells were again moving over Lake Karapiro and towards Hamilton City.
WeatherWatch.co.nz says that the storms may arrive before sunset, which would diminish the effect of lightning however the storm cells look very similar to last night.
Motorists on SH3 between from Taranaki to Te Kuiti are advised to be aware of torrential downpours and hail.
