Grass growth yet to surrender to winter

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Although a few frosts have affected parts of the country, grass growth is still advancing over much of the nation despite winter being upon us.Rainy conditions over recent times without too many freezing overnight temperatures have also kept soil temperatures a little warmer than normal.

One downside is that the lawns have yet to fully surrender to the wintry months and lawnmowers have had to be kept at the ready for many of us.

One positive note however is that some good pasture growth has been reported in areas that had struggled to produce anything of note due to the late summer and autumn prolonged dry spell.
Traditionally the coldest weather comes after the shortest day and with that day nearing by the hour, perhaps there’s a chance the mower can stay in the shed.
