Gales and heavy rain continue in North Island tonight

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Gale force winds are continuing to affect exposed parts of Auckland this evening with gusts to 120km/h on the Manukau Heads.

Passengers flying in and out of Auckland Airport tonight can expect a bumpy landing or take off.

Across metropolitan Auckland conditions aren’t so bad however strong nor’westers are affecting the Harbour Bridge and exposed parts of West Auckland near the Waitakere Ranges.

Meanwhile torrential rain continues to fall across the central North Island.  WeatherWatch.co.nz says heavy rain has set in across National Park and the Whanganui River catchment area and believes slips and flooding are highly likely tonight.

WeatherWatch.co.nz advises motorists driving from Wanganui to National Park take extreme care and watch for slips and flooding.
