Friday’s News: High moves in, frost risk again – Dry 3 days for most – Heavy Rain West Coast + Another tropical low?

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Here’s what is making the weather headlines today…..

HIGH MOVES IN, COLD MORNINGS

Our long awaited high moves in from today, this means some nice settled and sunny weather is on the way, temperatures should be warm in the afternoon’s about inland areas. Coastal spots will still warm up but onshore winds will keep it a bit cooler.

Cold mornings are likely with a slim risk of a frost, about the lower South Island this morning then inland parts of the North Island tomorrow.

More on temperatures here.

DRY WEATHER TODAY AND THIS WEEKEND, MOSTLY

As the high mentioned above moves in conditions will be dry, for most.

There may be an early clearing showers Banks Peninsula northwards in the east for the South Island, maybe the low risk of an isolated shower this afternoon for the West Coast. The North Island has a few showers in the east but these will mostly fizzle and clear away, Coromandel / northern Auckland and Northland have a few showers as a weak trough passes by.

On Saturday conditions are quite dry for many, a few parts of the upper North Island have the risk of a shower in the morning, any of these clear then Northland has the chance of an isolated shower in the afternoon / early evening.

RAIN OUTLOOK

Looking a bit dry for the next seven days, soil moisture levels are on par with where they normally would be at this time of year so we are looking mostly ok. A bit of rain in the east wouldn’t go astray, it’s western regions that get the bulk of any rain coming up though. Hopefully some good growth with the sun out in full force, make sure to cover up if working outdoors!

The West Coast coasts rain is in part due to a front moving through on Monday next week then mostly due to a front Thursday next week where if it sticks will bring some very heavy rain.

The precipitation percentage of normal map below runs through to Thursday 16th November. Blue coloring means that part of the country is likely to see more rainfall than would normally be expected at this time of year, red means less rainfall is expected and white is an average amount of rainfall. The more intense either red or blue then either scenario is more true.

Why are we getting this wind howling through. And when is going to stop. If it’s not one thing it’s another. Really over it.

Because it’s spring. That’s what happens every spring. Get used to it or move to another country.
