Here’s what is making the weather headlines today….
CHANCE OF THUNDER – EASTERN NORTH ISLAND
A southwest change moving up the east coast of the North Island today brings a chance of thunderstorms with hail, northern Wairarapa up through to Gisborne.
More details on our thunderstorm page here.
LIGHT FROST INNER NORTH ISLAND – SATURDAY MORNING
There still looks to be a chance of a light frost for the inner North Island on Saturday morning thanks to clear skies, light winds and high pressure.
As we mentioned yesterday, while parts of the inner South Island may get quite cold also, a frost may just be avoided thanks to a westerly quarter airflow despite the maps showing frost potential below. Still, a light one could occur for inland Nelson etc.
VERY STRONG NW WINDS ON SUNDAY
Strong northwesterly winds set up over the country this weekend, it’s looking like Sunday in particular will see the strongest winds for the South Island and lower North Island.
Something to be aware of moving forward.
More details in our daily video presented by Philip Duncan around midday.
