Friday’s News: A settled day, Front this weekend

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Here’s what is making the weather headlines today….

A SETTLED DAY

Some settled weather today thanks to a ridge of high pressure. Eastern regions will benefit the most with sunny skies likely but it will be frosty to start this morning especially inland.

The upper North Island may see a few fog patches this morning and again overnight, and perhaps inland Buller too.

The western side of the North Island could see one or two isolated showers and finally Fiordland has some rain with showers or scattered rain spilling over into Southland also.

FRONT THIS WEEKEND

A front moves in from the Tasman Sea this weekend and will be the main feature over the next seven day period.

Rain moves into the West Coast on Saturday bringing a few heavy falls from afternoon, rain about Nelson and Marlborough may be heavy from late afternoon or evening then easing overnight.

Overnight rain is heavy for Taranaki and Kapiti. Sunday sees heavy rain possibilities for the upper North Island, Coromandel and Bay Of Plenty especially in the afternoon / evening. Overnight into Monday heavy rain may switch sides into Hawkes Bay and Gisborne as an area of low pressure moves eastwards.

The eastern side of the South Island is a bit cool on Saturday thanks to northeasterlies and cloudy skies, Sunday warms up with sunnier weather and temperatures reaching into the mid to late teens.

Monday is settled for the South Island, this settled weather spreads further north on Tuesday although Tuesday could still see a few clearing showers in the east.

The precipitation percentage of normal map shows that over the next seven days western regions will experience more rain than would typically be expected at this time of year and eastern regions will be drier.
