Friday’s national forecast – High mostly in control

High pressure is spread over most of the country today, a south to southeasterly airflow for the North Island brings showers in the east and rain in the north.

North Island

Some cloud in the east (Gisborne to Wairarapa) with a few showers, more so in the morning, drying out in the afternoon, south to southeasterly winds. Sunnier out west with a few clouds at times. North of Auckland expect cloud and a few showers, heavy showers this afternoon about Northland with a chance of thunder. Winds more from the east for the upper North Island.

South Island

Morning cloud for Nelson and Marlborough breaks to mostly sunny weather. Sunny in the east but expect some high cloud about the far south, light winds tend onshore this afternoon. Some cloud for the West Coast with a few showers north of Greymouth spreading into the ranges of South Westland this afternoon, Fiordland has sun for much of today but expect some high cloud still.
