Some heavy rain for parts of the North Island today especially areas exposed to the east, strong easterly quarter winds with a front pushing down from the north. Becoming unstable behind this front for Northland. The South Island is more settled but rain eventually moves into Nelson and Marlborough.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Rain, heavy falls about Northland ease from midday then Auckland during the afternoon. Rain heavy about Great Barrier Island, Coromandel and Bay Of Plenty, easing evening. In the afternoon isolated showers move in for Northland, some become heavy with thunderstorms, possibly heavy with thunder. Late afternoon / evening isolated showers with a chance of thunder spread a little further southwards. Strong easterly winds with gales about the coast then starting to ease from afternoon.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy, rain develops during the afternoon spreading southwards. Easterly winds, perhaps a little gusty, winds strong about the Central Plateau.
Highs: 14-19
Eastern North Island
Cloudy, showers north of Napier with rain for Gisborne becoming heavy in the morning. Rain spreads southwards during the afternoon with heavy falls then easing overnight. Easterly winds, strong about the coast.
Highs: 16-18
Wellington
Thickening cloud, rain develops late afternoon or evening. East to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 18-20
Marlborough & Nelson
Thickening cloud, rain develops late afternoon or evening. East to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 16-19
Canterbury
Sun and increasing high cloud, some coastal mid level cloud from afternoon. Cloud thickens and lowers in the evening, patchy rain spreads down from the north overnight. Northeasterly winds freshen.
Highs: 16-20
West Coast
Sun and high cloud, rain spreads down from the north into Buller during the evening then reaching about Greymouth around midnight. Light winds.
Highs: 20-24
Southland & Otago
Sunny, some high cloud later in the day. Light winds for most, northeasterly winds a little blustery for coastal Otago.
Highs: 18-26
