A front pushes over the North Island today, moving away offshore to the northeast this afternoon or evening. The South Island has light winds under a very weak ridge of high pressure.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Rain develops this morning, heavy falls and thunderstorms possible, easing to showers in the afternoon, showers clear this evening. Northwesterlies change southwest as rain eases to showers.
Highs: 22-24

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning rain (possibly heavy with thunder) eases to showers as northwesterlies change southwest, sun starts to break through from afternoon, drying out in the evening.
Highs: 17-23

Eastern North Island

Rain spreads from the west this morning, easing to the odd spit or shower later this afternoon or evening. Northwesterlies tend southwest later in day.
Highs: 24-28

Wellington

Partly cloudy, a few showers especially morning and evening. Northerlies change to the south around midday.
Highs: 22-24

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny, afternoon cloud develops for Marlborough with a few isolated showers as winds tend to the east, showers clear later on. Afternoon northerly winds for Nelson.
Highs: 23-24

Canterbury

A mix of sun and cloud, the odd coastal shower in the morning. Showers develop further inland during the afternoon, one or two may become heavy with thunder, clearing at night. Afternoon easterlies.
Highs: 21-22

West Coast

Partly cloudy with a few showers, clearing evening. Southwesterly winds, tending northwest for Fiordland.
Highs: 17-21

Southland & Otago
Partly cloudy for Southland and Central Otago, there may be a spit or shower. Northwesterly winds, tending west to southwest for a time in the afternoon. Coastal Otago has a few showers, mainly afternoon, east to northeast winds from midday.
Highs: 18-22
