A northerly quarter airflow increases over the country today ahead of a front, this moves into Fiordland this morning then pushing northwards during the afternoon and evening bringing heavy rain.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning cloud or fog breaks then mostly sunny, southwesterly winds. Afternoon northerlies for Bay Of Plenty.
Highs: 18 – 20
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning cloud, perhaps some fog then mostly sunny. Cloud increases again later in the day, showers overnight. Northwesterlies.
Highs: 17 – 19
Eastern North Island
Sunny, morning cloud clears Gisborne. Light winds tend east to northeast in the afternoon although winds remain from the north or northwest all day for Wairarapa.
Highs: 19 – 22
Wellington
Morning cloud then mostly sunny, cloud thickens later in the day with a few spits overnight (mainly in the north). Northerlies strengthen.
Highs: 16 – 18
Marlborough & Nelson
Any morning cloud clears then mostly sunny, some cloud later in the day, a few spits overnight for Nelson. North to northwesterly winds increase after midday.
Highs: 19 – 25
Canterbury
Mostly sunny, high cloud increases from afternoon and there may be a few spots of rain in the evening. Late afternoon or evening expect some rain in the high country spreading from the west. North to northwesterly winds pick up after midday.
Highs: 20 – 24
West Coast
Sunny spells, rain with heavy falls for Fiordland spreads northwards reaching Buller in the evening as a front moves through. Northerlies change southwest overnight.
Highs: 15 – 19
Southland & Otago
Partly cloudy, a few spits possible early afternoon, mainly inland or towards the western ranges. Showers overnight as northerlies change southwest. There may be a few snow flurries lower to 500m overnight for Southland.
Highs: 19 – 22
