Friday’s national forecast – ENE airflow

A high starts to sneak up the eastern side of New Zealand today moving in from south of the country, it directs an east to northeasterly airflow in although the eastern North Island has southeasterlies. Eastern regions are a bit cloudy with drizzle or showers, the upper North Island has showers too, drier for the West Coast and far south with sun.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Occasional showers, showers becoming a little less frequent during the afternoon with sun breaking through at times. By evening just a few showers remaining in areas exposed to the east, drier out west. East to northeasterly winds, becoming a little blustery later in the day.
Highs: 20-23

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Partly cloudy skies, mainly dry but there could be a few spits in the afternoon. East to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 16-21

Eastern North Island

Cloudy with occasional showers, southeasterly winds.
Highs: 16-19

Wellington

A few light showers especially morning, some sun may break through at times, more so from afternoon. Southeasterly winds.
Highs: 17-18

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly cloudy for Marlborough with a few light showers, Nelson has partly cloudy skies. East to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 16-19

Canterbury

A cloudy cool day with patchy showers or drizzle, clearing near the coast in the afternoon then further inland later in the day. Cloud may break up a little overnight but fog or mist patches could then form. East to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 14-16

West Coast

Mostly sunny with a touch of high cloud, east to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 21-22

Southland & Otago
Any morning cloud clears Southland then sunny, Otago has morning cloud (a few light showers near the coast) then sunny spells develop after midday. East to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 15-18
