Friday’s national forecast – Cold front far south

The weather around New Zealand today is fairly tame, a cold front moves into the far south bringing rain, showers reach Canterbury this evening.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny, some cloud at times north of about Auckland, chance of a shower too, mainly later in the day. South to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 14 – 16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly sunny, winds are mostly light but fresh from the southwest about coastal Taranaki.
Highs: 7 – 15

Eastern North Island

Morning cloud, a few showers mainly along the coastal fringe, clearing around midday. Sunny areas increase from afternoon. Southwesterlies.
Highs: 14 – 16

Wellington

Mostly sunny with a touch of high cloud from afternoon, early southerlies tend northerly by midday. Winds change fresh southerly overnight bringing a few showers.
Highs: 13 – 14

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny with easing southwesterlies, high cloud from afternoon. Overnight winds change to the south.
Highs: 13 – 16

Canterbury

Mostly sunny with developing high cloud, northerlies. An evening southerly change brings a few showers. A few light snow flurries to 600m overnight.
Highs: 10 – 15

West Coast
Thickening cloud, showers turn to rain for Fiordland in the morning, clearing at night. A few showers make it further northwards in the evening. Light winds.
Highs: 11 – 14

Southland & Otago
Sun / high cloud, a southerly change around midday for Southland then Otago late afternoon brings rain, clearing later in the evening. Snow lowers to 400m in the evening before clearing (600m about the Lakes District).
Highs: 9 – 15
