A weak low pressure system over the North Island could bring some potentially unstable weather to the northeast of the island this afternoon and evening. In the South Island an easterly quarter airflow keeps skies fairly cloudy in the east with drizzle patches or rain for some, skies on the West Coast are mostly sunny.

Northland
Sunny spells with west to southwest breezes, chance of a shower mainly this morning. Eastern Northland may see an isolated shower develop late afternoon and evening for a time.
High: 21-24

Bay Of Islands
Sunny spells with light winds, any morning showers clear. Late afternoon and evening there is the risk of an isolated shower or two, chance heavy then clearing.
High: 23-24

Auckland

Sunny spells with southwesterly breezes, Risk of a shower, mainly morning.
High: 23

Central North Island, Lake Taupo, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny spells, cloud thicker morning and night inland, winds generally light from the west although Bay Of Plenty sees afternoon northerlies. Afternoon and evening isolated showers develop for some, a risk of thunderstorms about northeastern parts of the Central North Island and inland eastern Bay Of Plenty.

Eastern North Island

South to southeasterly breezes, showers about Wairarapa for much of the day. About Hawkes Bay and Gisborne a period of early showers clear then sunny spells develop, afternoon and evening however isolated showers develop especially about the ranges with a risk of heavy downpours and thunderstorms then clearing later in the evening.

Western North Island

The odd shower with south to southwest breezes, clearing in the evening. Mostly cloudy skies. About northern Taranaki expect sunny spells with south to southeasterly breezes.

Wellington

Periods of rain with brisk to strong southerly breezes.
High: 19

Nelson & Kateriteri

Sunny spells with light winds and afternoon sea breezes, chance of a few isolated afternoon showers mainly inland then clearing in the evening.

Marlborough

Cloudy periods with south to southeasterly breezes, showers at times near the coast especially about southern Marlborough where some rain is likely for a time.
Highs: 22-23

Canterbury

Mostly cloudy with drizzle patches, a period of rain for a time in the afternoon. South to southeasterly breezes.
Highs: 17-18

West Coast

Mostly sunny with south to southeasterly breezes.
Highs: 22-23

Coastal Otago

Morning drizzle clears then expect cloudy periods in the afternoon, chance of a few sunny spells sneaking through. Breezy east to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 16-17

Central Otago

Sunny spells with east to southeast breezes.
High: 23

Southland

Sunny with some cloud, breezy easterly winds.
High: 21
