A front moves over the South Island this morning then over the North Island this afternoon, western areas recieve the most rain (especially the South Island’s West Coast) while out east expect some brief rain as the front moves over. The airflow is strong from the northwest and gales are possible anywhere from Canterbury up through to the lower North Island.
Auckland & Northland
Sunny spells and some increasing cloud, northwesterly winds build. Some rain moves through mid afternoon onwards then clears in the evening as winds change southwesterly.

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Areas of cloud increasing with northwesterly winds building, the odd shower about the Waikato and Central North Island turns to rain late morning. Rain moves into the Bay Of Plenty in the afternoon with a westerly change. All rain clears by evening.
Highs: 16-21
Eastern North Island
High cloud with northwesterly winds building, brief afternoon rain with winds tending more westerly then easing later in the evening. Winds about the Wairarapa will be strong possibly gusting to gale force at times.
Highs: 21-24
Western North Island
Rain with gusty northerlies, rain eases to the odd shower in the afternoon with a strong westerly change. Clear spells in the evening with winds easing overnight.
Highs: 15-17
Wellington
Rain clears early afternoon then a few sunny spells develop, strong to gale northerlies ease later in the evening.
Highs: 16-17
Nelson
Rain with brisk north to northeasterly winds, then clearing to a mostly sunny afternoon with a gusty westerly change. Westerlies ease in the evening.
Highs: 17-18
Marlborough
Morning rain then mostly sunny in the afternoon, strong northwesterlies gusting to gale force ease in the evening.

Canterbury
Morning high cloud with brief rain possible especially inland, sunny by midday with strong gusty northwesterlies possibly gusting to gale force at times inland.
High: 20
West Coast
Rain, heavy and possibly thundery. Hail possible from late morning also as northerlies change gusty westerly.
High: 14
Coastal Otago
Morning sunny areas and some cloud, light winds. A brisk westerly change early afternoon brings showers, possibly heavy with hail then clearing in the evening.
Highs: 15-16
Central Otago
Morning rain with northwesterly winds, winds change westerly around midday with heavy showers and hail possible then clearing by evening. A few sunny spells begin to sneak through from afternoon.
Highs: 12-13
Southland
Cloudy areas with the chance of a shower this morning and northwesterly winds, a strong westerly change around midday brings heavy showers with a chance of hail.
High: 13
