A complex situation over New Zealand today with a west to northwest airflow. Most places will see rain or showers at some point today. The main features and times to make note of are western regions of the North Island when a front moves in from the west. A front moves onto the lower South Island in the afternoon / evening also.

Auckland & Northland
Cloudy skies with the odd shower, dry spells too especially about Northland where they will be long. Winds gusty from the northwest. Late evening or around midnight rain develops again as winds change strong southwest, rain may be heavy with thunderstorms.
Highs: 18-19

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Cloudy with periods of rain, easing in the afternoon for a time. Rain picks up again overnight as winds change gusty westerly.
Highs: 15-19

Eastern North Island
Plenty of high cloud, brief early morning rain then mainly dry for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne. Rain moves over from the west again overnight. Winds breezy from the northwest. About Wairarapa expect rain to develop in the morning with variable winds changing southwest at night.
Highs: 20-22

Western North Island
Periods of rain with brisk north to northwesterly winds, winds change westerly around late evening or midnight with heavy falls, possibly with some lightning.
High: 16-18
 
Wellington
Early showers clear, southerly winds and cloudy periods. Rain develops again later in the afternoon and may become heavy evening. Southerlies from later in the evening.
High: 15

Nelson
Fairly cloudy with some rain developing during the morning, variable winds. Rain clears overnight with a southwest change.
High: 16

Marlborough
Cloudy, rain develops during the afternoon then clears at night with a southwest change.
High: 17

Canterbury
Thick high cloud with northeasterly winds. Some scattered rain late afternoon and evening, mainly about North Canterbury.
Highs: 14-15

West Coast
Cloudy with the odd shower, northerly winds tend southwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 13-14

Coastal Otago
Sunny with light northeasterlies, some increasing high cloud. Winds change southwest late afternoon or evening with rain which eases overnight.
High: 13-14

Southland & Central Otago
Becoming cloudy in the morning with the chance of a shower, light northerlies. Winds tend west to southwest in the afternoon with showers which ease later in the evening.
Highs: 14
