A fairly resonable depression moves towards New Zealand today from the Tasman Sea, expect a north to northwesterly airflow to build across most of the country with high cloud developing in the east and rain out west. The North Island’s west coast stays mainly dry apart from the odd light shower, at night a westerly change brings a greater chance of showers.

Auckland & Northland
Cloudy spells with northwesterly breezes, overnight a few showers move through with a westerly change.
Highs: 19-21

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Mostly sunny about the Bay Of Plenty, cloudy spells elsewhere with the chance of a light shower now and then. Northwesterly breezes. Overnight a few showers move through for most with a westerly change.
Highs: 18-21

Eastern North Island
Sunny skies with light winds, tending northwest later in the day. Some evening high cloud.
Highs: 20-21

Western North Island
Sunny spells south of Taranaki with northwesterly breezes. Winds pick up from late afternoon with cloud increasing then expect some evening rain. About Taranaki, especially in the north expect mostly cloudy skies with northwesterly winds, evening showers.
Highs: 16-19

Wellington
Mostly sunny with light winds in the morning, northerlies strengthen from afternoon with increasing cloud. Some rain develops later in the evening.
High: 15

Nelson
Sunny at first with light winds, northerlies increase from afternoon with cloud increasing also. Some scattered evening rain develops.
Highs: 17-18

Marlborough
Sunny with some high cloud developing in the afternoon, north to northwesterly winds pick up in the afternoon also. Chance of a spot of rain later in the evening.
Highs: 20-21

Canterbury
Sunny with increasing high cloud from morning. Northerly winds inland and northeasterlies near the coast, increasing during the day. A few spots of rain may move through in the evening as winds tend more northwest.
Highs: 16-17

West Coast
Rain, possibly heavy and thundery about South Westland from morning moves into North Westland during the afternoon, there may be a few sunny spells in the morning about North Westland before skies cloud up by midday. Northeasterly winds tend northwest at night
Highs: 15-16

Coastal Otago
Thick high cloud with brisk northeasterly winds, a few brief spells of rain move through in the afternoon then clear by evening with winds easing. Skies clear up late afternoon or evening too.
Highs: 13-14

Central Otago
Cloudy areas but sunny spells at times too, particularly late afternoon onwards. A few spots of rain at times spreading from the west, mainly in the afternoon before clearing. Northerly winds tend more northwest in the evening.
Highs: 15-16

Southland
Thick high cloud with east to northeast winds, scattered spells of rain at times but expect dry spells too. A few sunny areas could even break through late afternoon onwards.
High: 15
