Sunny areas for most today as a ridge pushes in from the Tasman Sea. A few showers will clear this morning about eastern areas of the South Island namely Banks Peninsula and about the Catlins. Morning showers also clear about Wellington and from Taranaki through to Kapiti. About Hawkes Bay and Gisborne the odd afternoon shower may hang around.

Upper North Island

Sunny and cloudy areas with breezy southwesterlies, sunny areas longer about the Bay Of Plenty. A few showers may push into Gisborne late afternoon for a time.
HIGHS: 21-23

Lower North Island

Morning showers clear for most with sunny areas then increasing, cool south to southwesterly winds ease during the day. About Wairarapa showers generally clear around midday however in the evening the odd isolated shower may develop in the north, and also about Hawkes Bay then clearing at night.
HIGHS: 17-19

Upper South Island

Any morning showers clear about Banks Peninsula, sunny areas and some cloud for most otherwise with cool southwest breezes tending northeast about the Canterbury coastline late afternoon. Nelson will see sunny weather with light winds and afternoon sea breezes.
HIGHS: 16-19, 21 in Nelson

Lower South Island

Any morning showers about the Catlins clear, mostly sunny otherwise with southwest breezes dying out in the morning. Northeasterlies pick up along the Otago coast in the afternoon. Some high cloud also develops late afternoon with northwesterlies freshening inland at night.
