A large anticyclone in the Tasman Sea spreads over New Zealand today.
North Island
Mostly sunny for the western North Island today, any morning cloud Auckland northwards breaks away. Winds are mostly light then expect afternoon sea breezes. The east coast has a mostly cloudy day, perhaps the odd light shower or drizzle patch too, winds from the southeast.
South Island
A mostly sunny morning for the West Coast, a few clouds from afternoon as west to southwest winds develop. A mainly sunny day for Nelson, afternoon sea breezes. From Marlborough down through to coastal Otago expect a mostly cloudy morning then sunny areas increase this afternoon as east to northeast winds freshen. Mainly sunny for Central Otago, southland has morning cloud break to sunny areas, winds tend southwest this afternoon.
Temperatures
Highs in the early twenties for coastal parts of the western North Island today, getting into the mid to late twenties for inland areas. Temperatures in the high teens for the east coast. Coastal parts of the South Island has temperatures in the high teens, getting into the early twenties for inland areas and Nelson.
