A big low pressure system lies over New Zealand today, the main energy associated with this low affects the North Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning rain, possibly heavy then easing to showers in the afternoon as northwesterly winds change west to southwest.
Highs: 13-15

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Showers turn to rain in the morning, possibly heavy then easing during the afternoon. Snow about the Central Plateau to 800m. Light northwesterlies change southwest later on.
Highs: 10-14

Eastern North Island
High cloud, a few spots of rain possible then afternoons showers as southwesterlies freshen. Showers ease in the evening.
Highs: 14-16

Wellington
A mix of sun and cloud, a few showers mainly for northern Wellington. Northerlies change southerly late afternoon. Showers becoming more widespread overnight.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny, some high cloud. Mid level cloud builds a little in the afternoon as light winds tend southerly. A few showers from afternoon also mainly inland but a few possible near the coast then clearing overnight.
Highs: 13-14

Canterbury
Mostly sunny, some cloud from afternoon as light winds tend southwest. A few showers develop in the afternoon for inland areas then there may be a shower reach the coast in the evening.
Highs: 10-12

West Coast
Morning showers clear then becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon, light winds tend southerly.
Highs: 11-13

Southland & Otago
Dry with some sun then showers moves into Southland around midday as light winds tend southwest. Showers reach Otago late afternoon or evening. Showers ease / clear overnight.
Highs: 10-11
