A front pushes northwards over the South Island today however it weakens quickly from afternoon then another cold front moves onto the lower South Island in the evening. Meanwhile the North Island is covered in a westerly airflow.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Areas of cloud and the odd shower, some brief sun at times. Northland is mainly dry and the Bay Of Plenty is mostly sunny. Westerly winds.
Highs: 19-21

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy with a few showers, dry periods also. Breezy west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-19

Eastern North Island
Mainly sunny with west to northwesterly winds, gusty at times for the Wairarapa.
Highs: 20-23

Wellington
Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells, strong northwesterly winds.
High: 18

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny for Marlborough after some morning high cloud breaks away, gusty northwesterly winds. Nelson has a mix of sun and cloud, chance of a shower or two also especially around midday.
Highs: 18-20

Canterbury
Mostly sunny with some high cloud possible, northwesterly winds gusty for inland areas.
Highs: 19-22

West Coast
Morning rain, possibly heavy then easing to showers in the afternoon. Gusty westerly winds.
Highs: 14-16

Southland & Otago
Cloudy areas for Southland with the odd shower, rain from late afternoon. Otago has sunny areas and some high cloud, rain later in the evening or overnight. West to northwesterly winds, strong about Southland especially near the coast.
Highs: 12-16
