Southwesterlies for much of the country today, a fast moving front moves over the South Island overnight.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Showers, some may be heavy with hail in the morning then easing. Some sun breaking through at times, more so afternoon onwards. Southwesterly winds freshen in the morning.
Highs: 15-16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Early rain eases to the odd shower, breezy west to southwesterly winds (brisk to strong about coastal Taranaki). Some sun may even break through at times.
Highs: 9-14

Eastern North Island
Mainly sunny with west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-17

Wellington
Sunny spells with northwesterly winds.
High: 14

Marlborough & Nelson
Mainly sunny, light west to northwesterly winds about Marlborough. Westerly breezes for Nelson.
Highs: 15-17

Canterbury
Cloud develops in the morning Banks Peninsula southwards bringing the risk of a few showers then breaking away during the afternoon. Further north skies are sunnier. Light southwesterlies in the morning then easing.
Highs: 13-15

West Coast
Showers with breezy west to southwesterly winds. Rain moves in overnight with heavy falls possible.
Highs: 10-13

Southland & Otago
Morning showers then sunny spells increase after midday, southwesterly winds tend westerly in the afternoon. Overnight, further spots of rain are possible.
Highs: 11-14
