A westerly quarter airflow lies over New Zealand today, within this flow a front pushes over the South Island however it peters out around central parts of the country during the afternoon / evening.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Morning cloud breaks to a mostly sunny afternoon, southwesterly winds. Afternoon sea breezes for eastern Northland. The Bay Of Plenty has a sunny day after any morning cloud clears.
Highs: 22-25

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

A mix of sun and cloud with breezy west to northwesterly winds, brisk at times in the afternoon.
Highs: 19-21

Eastern North Island

Sunny with northwesterlies, winds may tend easterly about the coastal fringes of Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.
Highs: 25-28

Wellington

Sunny spells with brisk to strong northwesterly winds.
High: 20

Marlborough & Nelson

High cloud, chance spot of rain in the morning otherwise mainly dry. High cloud gradually decreasing from afternoon. Gusty northwesterly winds.
Highs: 23-26

Canterbury

Northwesterlies change southwest around midday bringing some cloud which breaks away in the evening, winds tend easterly in the evening.
High: 23-25

West Coast

Showers mostly clear by midday although the odd straggler may hang around till evening, sunny spells break through from afternoon. Westerly winds.
Highs: 17-18

Southland & Otago

Showers, some may be heavy however they will gradually ease then clear in the evening. Sunny spells break through at times. Gusty west to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-22
