A ridge over the North Island slowly slips away to the east today while a northwesterly airflow builds over the rest of the country. Generally cloudier in the west with the odd shower possible for some, sunnier in the east.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Morning cloud with the chance of a shower then expect afternoon sunny areas. East to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 19-21

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Sunny areas south of Taranaki with light west to northwesterly winds. Taranaki itself sees cloudy areas and the odd shower during the day, especially in the north. Northerly winds.
Highs: 18-21

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with north to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 19-20

Wellington

Sunny areas with northwesterly winds, breezy from afternoon.
High: 18

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny with north to northwesterly winds, breezy at times from afternoon about Marlborough.
Highs: 19-22

Canterbury

Mainly sunny, perhaps a touch of high cloud especially afternoon onwards. Light winds, moderate northwesterly winds inland from midday.
Highs: 22-23

West Coast

Some morning sun then becoming cloudy around midday, a few showers move in late afternoon. Heavy rain for Fiordland overnight. Northerly winds.
High: 17

Southland & Otago

Sunny areas and increasing cloud with west to northwesterly winds, some rain from later in the evening about Southland then moving into Otago overnight.
Highs: 18-22
