A large low pressure system covers the country today with warm northwesterlies ahead of it and cool southerlies following in behind, a mainly unsettled day across New Zealand.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Spells of rain with breezy northwesterlies, rain clears later in the evening or overnight. For Northland rain may be heavy from late morning and through the afternoon then easing.
Highs: 21-23
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning rain heavy early on Palmerston North southwards, then transforming
to showers around midday. Showers may be heavy at times however with
thunderstorms. Rain picking up again later on in the evening. For the Central
North Island expect mostly cloudy skies with the odd shower, late afternoon and
evening showers becoming heavier for a time with possible thunderstorms then
easing overnight. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 19-22
Eastern North Island
Morning rain, more so about the Wairarapa with heavy falls clearing by
midday, plenty of high cloud further north with northwesterly winds. In the
evening southerlies push into the Wairarapa bringing showers moving into the
Hawkes Bay around midnight.
Morning rain possibly heavy then easing to showers in the afternoon as
northwest winds change southerly.

Marlborough & Nelson
Early rain possibly heavy clears then a few sunny areas break through with
light winds, late afternoon or evening a southerly change brings further rain
however.
Sunny areas in the morning then a southwest change develops after midday
bringing increasing cloud then evening drizzle. Some rain possible for a time in
the evening also mainly inland.
Sunny areas in the morning, cloud builds and a few showers move through
late afternoon or evening with a southerly change. Showers then clear around
midnight.

Southland & Otago
Showers from early morning then easing in the afternoon, cool southwesterly
winds.
Highs: 12-14
