A vigorous front moves over the South Island this morning then onto the North Island this afternoon, it does weaken a little as it moves north. Most of the rain associated with this front will fall in the west however some makes it out east.

Northland
Cloud increases this morning with northwesterlies building, early to mid afternoon patchy showers move in then clearing in the evening with a westerly wind change.
High: 26-27

Auckland

Mostly cloudy with the chance of a light shower or two this morning
otherwise dry with northerlies. Mid afternoon showers are more likely then
clearing early evening with northwesterlies tending westerly.
High: 26

Waikato, Central North Island & Bay Of Plenty
Cloudy with increasing north to northeasterly winds, the
odd light shower about then this afternoon some rain moves through possibly
heavy which clears early evening with a westerly wind change.

Highs: 21-25

Eastern North Island

High cloud thickening this morning, north to northeasterly winds increase.
Some rain spreads into the Wairarapa early afternoon then perhaps into Hawkes
Bay and Gisborne for a time late afternoon / evening. The front associated with
this rain does weaken as it moves north however so any rain about Hawkes Bay and
Gisborne may only be brief. As rain clears about the Wairarapa by late afternoon
then any further north later on the sun starts to shine through.

Western North Island

Cloudy or becoming cloudy this morning, showers developing this morning
with northerlies strengthening. Rain for a time early to mid afternoon heavy
about Taranaki then clearing by evening, winds tend more northwest.
Highs: 22-24

Wellington

Cloudy with the odd spit possible, northerlies increasing this morning. A
period of rain moves through this afternoon then clearing as gusty northerlies
tend northwest.
High: 21

Nelson

Cloudy with rain, becoming heavy during this morning with northeasterlies
strengthening. Heavy rain clearing early this afternoon with a northwest wind
change, sunny areas then breaking through.
Highs: 22-23

Marlborough

Thick high cloud with northerlies becoming strong, a risk of gales. The odd
spot of rain then around midday expect a more sustained possibly heavy period of
rain moving through before clearing. Winds tend more northwest this afternoon
once rain clears, sunny areas break through.
Highs: 24-25

Canterbury

Mostly cloudy this morning with brisk north to northeasterly winds, some
rain towards midday moving in from the west then clearing this afternoon as
northeasterlies tend northwest. This evening winds tend southerly for a time
mainly Banks Peninsula southwards.
Highs: 24-25

West Coast

Rain, becoming heavy this morning with possible thunderstorms. Strong
northerly winds change southwest this afternoon with rain easing to showers
which clear by evening. Overnight cloud thickens again with northeasterlies
increasing, rain moves into South Westland becoming heavy with possible storms
again.
Highs: 19-20

Coastal Otago

Cloudy with breezy northeasterlies, rain moves in later this morning then
clearing this afternoon with a few sunny areas developing. There could be a
remaining shower or two near the coast till evening, winds change southwest this
afternoon.
High: 19

Southland & Central Otago

Mainly dry at first with thick high cloud, perhaps a spot of rain. Winds
change southwest mid to late morning bringing showers then easing early
afternoon. Any remaining showers clear by evening. Cloud thickens again
overnight with east to northeast winds developing and a few showers moving
in.
