A westerly quarter airflow lies over the country today with weather calming down for a time about many regions, although it won’t exactly be all that settled as a northwesterly airflow builds over the South Island later in the day.

Auckland & Northland
Cloudy spells with brisk southwesterly winds, the odd shower at times, gradually easing.
High: 17-19

Bay Of Plenty

Mostly sunny with breezy west to southwest winds.
High: 19

Waikato & Central North Island

Sunny spells with west to southwest winds, cloud thickens later in the
evening. There could be a few morning showers which clear mainly about the
Waikato.
Highs: 17-18

Eastern North Island

Sunny spells with cool southwesterly winds which die away in the evening,
there could be a few morning showers about the Wairarapa then clearing. High
cloud develops later in the day.
Highs: 19-20

Taranaki

Periods of cloud with breezy west to southwest winds, chance of a brief
shower now and then otherwise dry. Cloud thickens in the evening.
Highs: 17-18

Western North Island

Sunny spells with westerly winds, cloud thickens evening.
High: 19

Wellington

Mostly sunny, northerlies freshen from midday with high cloud then
developing.
High: 16

Nelson

Sunny in the morning with light winds, high cloud increases from midday and
winds tend northwest by evening then freshen.
High: 18-19

Marlborough

Sunny in the morning with light winds, northerly winds freshen from
afternoon with high cloud then increasing. Winds tend northwest by
evening.
Highs: 18-19

Canterbury

Sunny in the morning then high cloud thickens from midday, northeasterly
winds freshen along the coast with northwesterlies inland freshening late
afternoon / evening.
High: 16-17

West Coast

Becoming mostly cloudy in the morning with northwesterly winds gradually
freshening. Patchy drizzle from evening with rain moving into Fiordland, heavy
rain moves north along the coast overnight.
High: 16

Coastal Otago

High cloud thickens from morning with freshening northeasterlies, overnight
brief rain.
High: 16

Central Otago

Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, northwesterly winds build during the
afternoon and evening. Overnight expect rain.
Highs: 17-18

Southland

High cloud thickens from morning, northwesterly winds. Later in the evening
a few spits of rain move in then overnight expect a period of more persistent
rain with a westerly change.
High: 16
