A low pressure system brings unstable weather to parts of the North Island today, especially this afternoon. The South Island is caught under a southeasterly airflow.

Northland
Sunny spells with north to northwesterly winds, the odd isolated shower mainly afternoon onwards possibly heavy with thunderstorms then easing in the evening.
Highs: 18-19

Auckland

Periods of cloud with a few sunny spells about, light northeasterlies.
Isolated showers develop around midday which may become heavy for this afternoon
with thunderstorms then easing this evening.
Highs: 17-18

Bay Of Plenty

Early showers ease away with dry spells developing, from midday showers
move in again some possibly heavy with thunderstorms about western Bay Of Plenty
then easing in the evening. Light northeasterlies.
High: 17

Waikato & Central North Island

Early showers clear, expect cloudy spells with further showers in the
afternoon. Showers in the PM may be heavy about the Waikato with thunderstorms
then easing in the evening. Light east to northeast winds.
Highs: 15-17

Eastern North Island

Early showers clear then expect cloudy spells with easterly winds, in the
evening a few further showers develop especially about the ranges.
Highs: 14-15

Taranaki

Cloudy with easterly winds, the odd spit then rain moves in around midday
before easing in the evening.
Highs: 15-16

Western North Island

Mostly cloudy with easterly winds, the odd spot of rain at times mainly
afternoon onwards.
High: 17

Wellington

Cloudy with the odd spit then occasional showers from midday, southerly
winds freshen this afternoon.
Highs: 13-14

Nelson

Chance of an early shower otherwise mostly cloudy with southeasterly winds,
overnight a few further showers are possible.
High: 16

Marlborough

Cloudy with early showers easing possibly clearing, southerly winds
freshen. Overnight showers move in again.
High: 14

Canterbury

Mostly cloudy with southwesterly winds, a few showers at times from midday
mainly Banks Peninsula northwards.

West Coast

Mostly sunny with some high cloud, southeasterlies. Rain or showers north of Westport from this afternoon however.

Morning cloud breaks to afternoon sunny spells, light southwesterlies ease
in the evening.
