A front moves northwards over the South Island for most of today then onto the North Island later in the evening. The wettest place is looking to be the West Coast of the South Island, thunderstorms look possible. The driest regions will be the east of both islands.

Northland
Mostly sunny with northwesterly winds, areas of cloud increase from afternoon. Overnight rain develops.
High: 21

Auckland

Sunny spells and increasing cloud with northwesterly winds, there may be a
brief shower at times from afternoon, a greater chance later in the evening of
showers. Winds change southwest overnight.
Highs: 20-21

Bay Of Plenty

Any early showers clear then expect sunny spells and increasing high cloud,
northwesterly winds. A few brief showers move through at times from late
afternoon, winds change southwest overnight.
High: 21

Waikato & Central North Island

Cloudy with showers developing mid to late morning, northwesterly winds.
Around midnight winds change southwest with showers easing then clearing.
Highs: 17-20

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with some increasing high cloud and northwesterly winds
freshening in the afternoon. A few spits of rain move through in the evening,
winds change westerly around midnight.
Highs: 23-24

Western North Island

Cloudy with showers about Taranaki from morning, spreading elsewhere by
midday. Northwesterly winds increase then change gusty southwesterly in the
evening. Expect rain about Taranaki from late morning, the odd thunderstorm
possible then easing later.
High: 19

Wellington

Cloudy with breezy northerlies becoming strong by midday, winds gusting to
gale force at times from afternoon. Mid afternoon a few spells of rain develop
then clearing later in the evening with a gusty westerly change.
Highs: 17-18

Nelson

Becoming cloudy in the morning with increasing northwesterly winds, some
rain develops mid afternoon then clears in the evening with a gusty westerly
change.
High: 19

Marlborough

Thickening high cloud with northwesterlies freshening from morning, a few
spells of rain move through late afternoon or early evening then clearing with
gusty westerlies following in behind.
Highs: 21-23

Canterbury

Thick high cloud in the morning with northerlies increasing, a few spells
of rain move through early afternoon then clearing with sunny areas increasing.
Gusty northwesterlies develop in the afternoon.
Highs: 20-22

West Coast

Rain develops in the morning, thunderstorms and heavy falls possible
especially south of Haast. Winds change gusty southwest in the afternoon with
rain easing to showers.
High: 16-17

Coastal Otago

Thick high cloud with northerly winds, a change to westerlies in the
afternoon brings some scattered rain. Strong westerlies develop later in the
evening possibly gusting to gale force about the coast.
Highs: 15-16

Central Otago

Rain develops in the morning then eases to showers in the afternoon as
winds change southwest. Showers clear later in the evening in the north however
remain for southern parts of the district.
High: 14

Southland

Thick high cloud with northerly winds, rain passes through around midday
then clearing. An strong evening west to southwest change brings further
rain.
High: 15
