A broad low pressure system covers the country today, many areas will see periods of rain or showers. Heavy thundery falls about many places in the North Island too.

Auckland & Northland
Periods of cloud with light winds, tending more westerly after midday. There could be a few isolated showers about this afternoon then clearing in the evening.
Highs: 22-23

Bay Of Plenty

Rain, possibly heavy with thunderstorms easing in the afternoon, possibly clearing with sunny spealls breaking through. Westerlies develop.
Highs: 21-22

Waikato & Central North Island

Periods of cloud with light winds, showers develop during the afternoon
with heavy falls and thunderstorms possible. Showers then ease later in the
evening.
Highs: 20-23

Eastern North Island

Cloudy with a few showers, rain with heavy falls and possible thunderstorms for East Cape and Gisborne moving into Hawkes Bay during this morning then easing in the afternoon. East to northeast winds.
Highs: 20-21

Western North Island

Sunny spells with light winds, a few isolated showers develop during the
afternoon. Showers about Taranaki and in the ranges behind Palmerston North /
Kapiti may become heavy with thunderstorms then easing later in the
evening.
Highs: 21-24

Wellington

A few early morning showers ease and mostly clear, cloudy spells. Further
showers from afternoon. Light winds.
Highs: 18-19

Nelson

Chance of an early shower then sunny spells increase, light winds tend
northerly in the afternoon.
Highs: 19-20

Marlborough

Early rain clears then sunny spells develop, light winds. Low risk of a
brief afternoon shower.
Highs: 18-20

Canterbury

Any early drizzle clears then expect mostly cloudy weather. Light winds
tend easterly after midday.
Highs: 17-18

West Coast

Sunny areas and high cloud with light winds, chance of the odd shower at
times north of about Hokitika from thicker periods of cloud.
High: 20

Coastal Otago

Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells, northeasterly winds. Later in the
evening winds tend southerly and some cloud moves in overnight.
High: 16-17

Central Otago

Mostly sunny after any early cloudy clears, light winds.
Highs: 20

Southland

Becoming mostly sunny in the morning, light winds tending southerly in the
afternoon. Cloud thickens overnight.
Highs: 17-18
