A cold southwesterly airflow lies over the country today, the front that moved over the South Island yesterday continues north heading over the upper North Island this morning.

Northland
Cloudy spells with westerly breezes, chance of a shower or two mainly in the west. Around midday winds change more southwesterly bringing a brief period of slightly more widespread showers then clearing with sunny spells increasing.
Highs: 23-24

Auckland

Showers clearing around midday, sunny areas then increase with brisk
southwesterly winds easing overnight.
High: 22

Central North Island, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Morning showers clear then sunny spells increase, brisk west to
southwesterly winds ease in the evening. A few further showers may move into
southern parts of the Central North Island in the evening for a time then
clearing overnight.
Highs: 21-24

Eastern North Island

A period of showers clearing by mid morning then a few sunny spells
develop, southwesterly winds. In the afternoon further showers move into the
Wairarapa then in the evening further north as winds tend more southerly.
Showers clear for most overnight.
Highs: 20-23

Western North Island

Early showers clear then expect sunny spells with breezy westerlies,
further showers move through in the afternoon as winds tend more southwest then
clearing in the evening. About northern Taranaki morning showers clear then
expect mostly sunny weather with gusty southwesterlies, easing in the evening
and tending lighter southerly.
Highs: 18-19

Wellington

Cloudy spells with southerly winds, a few early showers clear. Southerlies
become strong late afternoon with the risk of a few further showers for a time.
High: 17

Nelson

Sunny areas and some cloud with southwesterly winds, a little brisk at
times. A few isolated showers possible during the afternoon inland and a few of
those showers may briefly spread to the coast for a time in the evening. Showers
then clearing.
Highs: 20-21

Marlborough

Sunny with some cloud, light winds at first. Southerlies freshen from
afternoon. A few isolated showers may get going in the afternoon mainly inland
then clearing in the evening.
Highs: 18- 20

Canterbury

Sunny spells and some cloud with fresh southwesterlies, strong at times in
the afternoon. A few isolated showers may get going in the afternoon mainly
about Banks Peninsula and inland parts of North Canterbury, showers clear in the
evening for inland North Canterbury.
Highs: 17-18

West Coast

Brisk southwesterlies with sunny spells and some cloud, easing in the
evening. About Buller there may be a few showers develop in the afternoon then
clearing in the evening.
Highs: 17-18

Coastal Otago

Occasional showers, a chance of small hail this morning. Showers clearing
during the evening. Strong southwesterlies gale force about the coast ease later
in the evening.
Highs: 12-13

Central Otago

A few morning showers, clearing by midday then becoming mostly sunny. Cold
southwesterly winds die out around midnight.
Highs: 14-16

Southland

Showers with a chance of small hail clearing around midday, sunny spells
not breaking through till late afternoon or evening. Cold southwesterly winds
ease in the evening.
High: 12
