An anticyclone spreads a ridge over the country later tonight bringing clearing weather and more settled conditions, however a front moving over the South Island currently will move north this evening. As it does it weakens considerably bringing only a few light showers to western parts of the North Island later this evening and overnight.

Northland
Mainly clear with west to southwest breezes easing later this evening.

Auckland
A mainly clear evening with just a few clouds about, breezy westerly winds ease later this evening. Some cloud develops overnight.

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Mainly clear skies with breezy westerlies easing later this evening. Some cloud develops about the Waikato and Central North Island especially in the west later this evening and there is the chance of a brief shower overnight.
Tonight’s Low: 10-12

Eastern North Island
Increasing high cloud with west to northwest winds, brisk about the Wairarapa. Winds ease overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 11-12

Western North Island
Some high cloud increasing with brisk west to northwest winds, cloud a bit thicker about northern Taranaki and Kapiti with a few showers developing in these areas this evening. Some brief rain for most towards midnight then clearing with westerly change.

Wellington
Cloudy with some brief evening rain, strong to gale northerlies ease later this evening and winds change southerly overnight.
Tonight’s Low: 9-10

Nelson
Cloudy with a spell of rain this evening then clearing as northerlies change west to southwest. Skies clearing up overnight.

Marlborough
Some high cloud, strong gusty northwesterly winds ease around midnight and tend westerly. There may be a brief spot of rain later this evening.

Some brief rain possible late this afternoon or early evening then clearing with northwesterlies tending more
westerly. Skies become clear overnight.

Rain easing to showers this evening which clear before midnight, areas of cloud overnight. Southwesterly winds.

Coastal Otago
Remaining showers clear this evening with southwesterlies dying out, clear skies overnight with light winds.

Southland & Central Otago
Remaining showers clear later this evening, westerly winds strong to gale force about Southland ease later. Clear spells overnight.
