Strong winds in Wellington have disrupted flights coming in and out of the capital for the second day in a row – although as predicted by WeatherWatch.co.nz the disruptions aren’t as significant as they were under stormy weather in previous weeks.
WeatherWatch.co.nz predicts some flights will be delayed or cancelled over Friday and Saturday and possibly Sunday as strong to gale force winds continue.
Windy conditions this morning in the city have already risen over 100km/h. While winds will continue to strengthen today they are expected to ease back by tonight.
Another surge of gales returns to Wellington on Saturday, peaking in the afternoon or evening.
Gales may also continue into Sunday morning before easing back.
At this stage we don’t expect major problems with winds not as strong as gales in previous weeks but for an hour or two during the peaks of these gales there may be delays.
Check the forecasts then your airline and airport websites before travelling this long weekend.
