Frosty conditions this morning have seen the temperatures dip below zero in a couple of cases.
At 6am, it was minus 1 degree in both Christchurch and Dunedin, as frosts had formed overnight and roads could be possibly a little slippery in shady areas.
A number of South Island centres were honing in on the zero mark first thing this morning and light frosts were also possible.
The frost is expected to thaw fairly rapidly later on this morning and temperatures in Central Otago may nudge the mid 20s by mid afternoon.
Tonight looks like another cold one is on the way, with more frosts expected in eastern and central areas of the South Island.
