Freezing cold in the South Island at noon

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Conditions remain quite literally freezing cold in parts of the South Island this afternoon reports WeatherWatch.co.nz.

As of 12:30pm Queenstown was still at -2 with Lumsden in Southland still at -1.

A number of other centres are feeling the chill too.  It’s just 1 degree in Wanaka and Gore and Invercargill has only climbed to 3 degrees this hour.

Dunedin is a little warmer on 6 while Christchurch has 7.

In contrast Napier, Gisborne and Whangarei have 16 degrees this hour.

WeatherWatch.co.nz says that the South Island remains under still and partly cloudy skies due to a large high while the North Island has windier, warmer, weather because of a low.

This is why I like winter in the south, the low temperatures, the cool feel in the air!
