The Police are advising motorists in Auckland and on the Coromandel Peninsula to be aware of significant flooding on roads.
In particular traffic has come to a stand still in both directions on the Nor’Western motorway in West Auckland with the storm surge pushing up over both sides of SH16 at Waterview.
Traffic is presently being diverted off at Te Atatu and diverted through to Gt North Road.
Northern Motorway [Northshore] City bound has been diverted off at Esmonde Road and back on at Onewa Road. Tidal debris is the cause of this closure.

Tamaki Drive has presently been closed at Ngapipi Road, diversion are in place. The incoming tide isresponsible for this, which at present is crashing over the seawall in areas.
In particular around Whitianga there are areas of flooding, slippages and trees down in the general area.
Motorists are advised to restrict travel in and around these areas and to exercise caution if travel is essential.

The northern motorway south bound is now open again. It opened around 10 min ago.

Northwestern Motorway now blocked both directions. Road is totally under water
