One week into Canterbury’s fire ban, people are being urged to think before they burn.
With a total ban in all urban areas and those in rural districts needing a permit to burn anything – there’s frustration people are still getting in trouble.
After fires on the Waimakariri and Selwyn districts over the weekend, Civil defence and rural fire manager Murray Sinclair says resources are stretched.
He says Canterbury’s conditions are perfect for a blaze to spread.
