Fingers crossed for rain – Weather risks for Thursday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

As we mentioned yesterday, a broad and weak area of low pressure lies over most of the country – which will bring showers to much of the South Island – but unfortunately for farmers, it probably won’t be as much as they are hoping for.

Rain first thing this morning may be heavy about Fiordland with possible thunderstorms, but conditions will then ease.
There is a chance that showers about Southland and Otago could be heavy this morning also, however they will also settle down eventually.

Towards evening we enter into a slightly different situation.
From inland Canterbury up through to inland Marlborough, isolated showers are possible – one or two of which may be heavy – along with a low chance of a thunderstorm too.
Of course, this area is in desperate need of decent rain, so fingers crossed it gets to where it’s needed most!
