Exclusive: VIDEO shows spectacular Meteor exploding in skies over NZ

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Updated 4:05pm — WeatherWatch.co.nz has been sent video of what appears to be the meteor last night over New Zealand.  WeatherWatcher Peter Firmin sent us this video, taken last night, showing a spectacular meteor flash across the skies in Rai Valley, near Nelson.

Peter says that on watching the footage back, “there are numerous small white lights, explosions in the atmosphere as well, before and after the meteor.

The video was taken in the Rai Valley area school coming into the 60 kph zone heading toward Nelson.

“It certainly caught my eye as it lit up the sky” Peter told WeatherWatch.co.nz.  “thought it was like something from out of star-wars, when it just suddenly appeared as though coming out of a wormhole or something to that effect?.

Peter says it also broke up into at least two pieces before disappearing.

Check out the video below, and let us know if you’ve seen anything yourself, by going to our meteor submissions page.
