Exclusive: House destroyed by squall, 80 yo couple inside at time

He says his grandparents-in-law live in Clarks Beach, a small beach front community 15kms south west of Auckland International Airport and near the Manukau Heads.

Last night WeatherWatch.co.nz reported the Manukau Heads had winds gusting to 154km/h for over 10 minutes, classing them at hurricane force. 

Gusts throughout last night and much of today have been between 120 and 140km/h in the area.

Mr Small says he suspects it was a tornado as nearby homes were unaffected.
