Sunshine is basking down across most of the country this morning and temperatures are beginning to rise, after quite a cool night for many places.
Single figures were commonplace first thing this morning with 1 or 2 approaching the freezing mark in inland areas of the South Island.
A little cloud is also around, especially in some eastern and northern areas, with a couple of showers in and around Northland.
The day should stay mostly settled for 95% of the country, with the exception of the far north, where some further showers are possible.
Main centre temps as of 10.30
Auckland 19
Hamilton 16
Tauranga 17
Wellington 14
Christchurch 15
Dunedin 12

Here in Whangarei it is very overcast right now, no warm sun as yet with temp just getting to 20 deg, around 80% humidity. A few heavy showers last evening as promised from Auckland but did not seem to put too much of a damper on celebrations in town for an early St Patricks day, “i diddly i” day they call it. Organised by local people and very popular.
After the recent great hot weather these cooler days are taking a bit of getting used to, never ceases to amaze me how quickly the change occurs. It feels to me some years that here in Northland we only have two seasons, Summer for about 3 months & Winter for the rest.
I am hoping for a good mild winter with heaps of sunshine of which we have not seen for a good while, but with some areas already into winter temps I am not so certain.
Thanks for all your great work into making this site a daily and enjoyable ritual for me.
