Boisterous could be one term to describe todays weather across the country!
Rain, hail, sleet, snow, thunderstorms, gales and tornadoes were all reported in the last 24 hours.
Winter really swung into action with very cold temperatures for a large chunk of the country and the bitter southerly made it feel even colder in the wind.
Overall, tonight is shaping up to be one of the coldest nights of 2009 to date with many areas getting close to zero and although some in the north and west may not hit freezing point, temperatures should be in the mid-single digit range.
Good Friday sees a drmatic improvement with the sun expected in many areas but still temperatures will be cool in the main with another cold night on the way tomorrow night.
The high today was 19 in Kaitaia and the Bay of Islands and the low was 6 at Molesworth station.
