Cold start in south but sunshine ahead

Temperatures are very cool in the south this morning with Dunedin and Invercargill airports both on 4 degrees. It’s even cooler with Lumsden only on 2 and just nearby, Queenstown and Gore are on 5 degrees. The good news is the sun should push the mercury into the 20s for all of those centres by early afternoon.

Levin, Paraparaumu and Lower Hutt also dived down to single figures overnight but are expected to warm quite quickly this morning.

Much of the country should see temperatures peak in the 20s today but with winds expected to pick up along the east coast of the South Island, it may feel a little cooler there.
