Cold start for many but sunshine ahead

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Temperatures dipped below freezing in Christchurch and Waiouru this morning but much of the country shivered as well.

Hamilton managed 2 degrees, Taupo cooled down to 1 degree along with Palmerston North.Levin dropped down to 2 degrees. Unusually, more North island centres were closer to the freezing mark first thing this morning than the South Island.

The pay off is that a fine and sunny day is likely for more than 90% of the nation and the weekend is looking generally settled overall.
