A cold southerly is very slowly heading north today bringing a dramatic drop in temperatures.
Around noon Oamaru hit 30 degrees and within 29 minutes had fallen to just 12. Timaru and Dunedin have also temperatures drop from near the 30 degree mark to around 13 following the cold southerly change.
Christchurch is next in the firing line with the cold change likely late this afternoon. The temperature has been around 29 degrees in the past hour at the airport however private weather stations are now recording temperatures over 30 degrees.

I was in Oamaru attending the Victorian Festival and noted the Southerly change that came through around noon.
Participatiing in the procession it was really hot and after it finished the southerly roared through and covered the town in dust.
Yes there was a dramatic temperature drop and many people who were dressed in Victorian clothing were very much relieved by the cooler conditions.
