Civil Defence cleaning up after Christchurch flooding

Civil Defence sucker trucks are busy cleaning up some Christchurch streets after more flooding in the eastern suburbs last night.

The high tide brought more surface flooding to streets around the lower-reaches of the Avon River.

Parts of Avonside Drive, Hulverstone Drive, New Brighton Road and Anzac Drive were all affected last night.

A spokeswoman says the flooding was caused from the high tide back-flowing up the storm water channels which are already blocked with silt. She says the water has reduced this morning
