A fairly large low pressure system sits to the east of New Zealand today directing a west to southwest airflow over New Zealand. Expect rain or showers for many regions today although Canterbury will start the day sunny. Marlborough will be the pick of the bunch with sunny skies for much of the day, the east coast of the North Island has a few early showers to move out’ve the way then sunny weather develops there also.

Northland
Cloudy with rain developing late morning or around midday then easing to
showers early to mid afternoon in the west. Showers clear mid afternoon in the
east with sunny spells developing. Morning northwesterlies then afternoon west
to southwest winds.
High: 22

Bay Of Islands

Cloudy with rain developing around midday then easing to showers in the
afternoon, showers clear mid afternoon with sunny spells developing. Morning
northwesterlies then afternoon west to southwest winds.
High: 22

Auckland

Morning rain eases to the odd shower around midday, chance of a few
afternoon sunny spells at times but plenty of cloudy areas too. Breezy west to
southwest winds.
Highs: 21-22

Central North Island, Lake Taupo, Waikato
& Bay Of Plenty

Morning rain eases to the odd shower. Showers clearing about eastern parts
of the Central North Island and all of Bay Of Plenty for the afternoon with
sunny areas increasing but the odd one remaining elsewhere. Breezy
westerlies.
Highs: 20-23

Eastern North Island

Any early showers clear then sunny spells increase with breezy west to
northwest winds. Mostly sunny in the afternoon.
Highs: 25-26

Western North Island

Showers ease this morning and a few sunny spells develop, the odd shower
remains through the afternoon but expect dry spells too with westerly winds
becoming a little gusty. Overnight further more widespread showers move
in.
Highs: 19-21

Wellington

Sunny spells with northerly winds, later in the evening winds change
southerly with rain moving in.
High: 22

Nelson & Kateriteri

Sunny with a few clouds, westerly winds a little breezy at times. Later in
the evening a few showers move through as winds tend more southwest.
Highs: 22-23

Marlborough

Mostly sunny and warm with west to northwest breezes. Chance of an isolated
shower about southern Marlborough near the coast late afternoon. Later in the
evening more widespread showers move in as southerlies freshen.
Highs: 26-27

Canterbury

A mostly sunny morning with light winds, westerlies inland. A few isolated
showers develop from early afternoon mainly inland. Late afternoon or evening
more widespread showers move in as southwesterlies freshen.
Highs: 20-22

West Coast

Showers with southwesterly breezes, showers clear overnight.
Highs: 16-17

Coastal Otago

Southwesterlies freshen this morning bringing showers.
High: 15

Central Otago

Periods of rain or the odd drizzle patch, south to southwest breezes.
Highs: 14-16

Southland

Rain with southwesterlies tending more southerly in the afternoon. Rain
clears overnight.
Highs: 13-14

So far so good here in Welly, fine and upto 21c @10.30am and showers not expected till evening.
