Sunshine and temperatures in the 20’s are making for a nice Tuesday in Christchurch and much of Canterbury.
Whether you are playing or working outdoors, it looks like the weather will cooperate for the rest of today and all of Wednesday.
However, the period Thursday through Saturday is a bit iffy.
The remnants from Tropical Cyclone Fina are expected to spread a lot of rain across the North Island. This may hold true for Christchurch and the rest of the northern South Island as well. Right now it looks like Thursday will be the more difficult of the three days. Whilst rain looks likely throughout out the period, Thursday could be a bit windy as well. The wind forecast is a bit more questionable at this point though. The track of the low that used to be Fina will play a big role on who gets what wind and when. That track is still in a bit up in the air. No pun intended.
The first few days of 2012 are also a bit iffy. Rain is in the forecast for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday as well.
But, keep in mind, the longer the forecast the less the accuracy. So while Thursday does indeed look like it will be quite stormy and Friday and Saturday look dodgy at best, maybe the forecast will change a bit for New Year’s Day and the beginning of next week.
Stay tuned…

Cloudy with showers is the basic forecast – rain and colder southerlies likely on Sunday the 1stm, but before that nothing too significant at this stage – but watch river levels from heavy rain up in the hills.
